The earth pyramids of Segonzano

The earth pyramids of Segonzano: A masterpiece of nature

If you want to visit a true masterpiece of nature, you should take a side-trip to the Val di Cembra. In this valley is located Segonzano at 875 meters above sea level, famous for its earth pyramids. The pyramids are up to 40 meters high and have been modeled in 50,000 years of erosion from the debris that the glaciers of the ice age have left behind.

Whoever wonders how such earth pyramids are formed should take a look at their tip. There is usually a larger piece of rock, which protects the underlying material like a large umbrella from the rain. While soil and stones are washed away and removed around the boulder, the shield-protected pyramid remains untouched.

The battlements, towers, organ pipes and pyramids can be admired from a walkway and can be visited daily from 9 am to 6 pm from the beginning of June to the end of September. In May and October the route is only open on Saturdays, Sundays and on public holidays (9am – 6pm).

Admission fee is € 3,00 (reduced € 2,00).
