Christmas Markets
We look forward to welcoming you to our hotel for the Trento Christmas Markets
The bright decorations, the scent of typical food and the crackling fire warming the chestnuts … stay in our hotel for the Trento Christmas Markets: you just have to take a short walk to be surrounded by the magic the old town provides at this time.
Wooden stalls, handicrafts, typical food
Numerous wooden stalls decorated for the season and festooned with lights. At the Trento Christmas Markets local crafts, small decorative objects and textile accessories and decorations are exhibited and sold; then there are numerous stalls selling typical local cuisine and desserts.
At this time, you can see a different side to Trento that is even more welcoming: droves of people fill the squares and roads in the old town and Christmas music can be heard on every corner… the atmosphere is really something special: unsurprisingly Trento is known as the “Christmas City”.
Where and when
If you stay in our hotel during the Trento Christmas Markets you can reach the heart of the event in just over a quarter of an hour.
The stalls are in Piazza Fiera and Piazza Mostra. Piazza Fiera is a large rectangular square while Piazza Mostra is more atmospheric thanks to the presence of the Castello del Buon Consiglio. Passing from one to the other you can also reach the famous Piazza Duomo which at this time is decorated with a large Christmas Tree and lights.
The precise dates vary every year but the Christmas Markets are usually open from the middle of November and close on the Epiphany at the beginning of January.
Shopping, in a different way
At the Trento Christmas Markets shopping is completely different: from one wooden stall to another there is a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere. Ceramics, handicrafts, typical ingredients while enjoying the atmosphere full of warmth and magic.
Here you can find presents to put under the tree and Christmas decorations for the home as well as useful objects for all year round. It is a very engaging and cheerful way of shopping!
Local delicacies
The Christmas Markets are the perfect occasion to explore gastronomic traditions and sample some typical Trentino and South Tyrol dishes. First courses, second courses and desserts… for lunch or a snack accompanied by a glass of warm Vin Brulé.
They are also an excellent opportunity to buy typical regional products: cheeses, cold cuts and other characteristic regional products.
The best time
What’s the most magical time? From sunset onwards: the lights are lit on the wooden stalls and the evening atmosphere makes everything more magical. It is also worth visiting the Markets at lunch time to enjoy a typical meal outdoors during the warmer hours of the day.
Not only in Trento
Many cities near Trento also have magical Christmas Markets.
In Rovereto decorated wooden stalls are positioned between Piazza Damiano Chiesa and Corso Rosmini. Then there are the Original South Tyrolean Christmas Markets: the easiest to get to from Trento are in Bolzano, Merano and Bressanone.
The Bolzano Christmas Market, half an hour away by car is located in the historic and picturesque Piazza Walther. In Merano, an hour by car from the hotel, the stalls are located along the Passirio stream and in Piazza Terme; in Piazza della Rena there is also a historical Christmas village. The Christmas Market in Bressanone is surrounded by historical buildings in Piazza del Duomo.
